The following are advanced search options you can use to help better target the search results you're looking for. For a list of helpful search tips, visit our search tip information listing:

• Wildcard Searches - The BioGRID supports wildcard searching (ie. searching where the search is not exact but rather a range of possible matches) on the TAIL end of any keyword entered in our search field. To perform a wildcard search, simply enter your prefix (must be 3 letters or more) followed by a star (*).
  • Examples: STE*, CDC*, YAL01*, CLN*
  • These will not work: ST*E, *L01, CC* (too short)

If you click on the “Publication” tab from the main page, you can search by pubmed id. Simply enter a list of valid pubmed ids separated by spaces, commas, or newlines and our search will pull up as many as it can find as long as they contain interactions within our database. Here are some examples:

• 9006895
• 10391924,12361954,11923305,9050991,12624098

Be sure that you don't mix pubmed ID searches with full text searches (described below) if for example you search for “10391924 DIABETES” (combining a pubmed and a full text term) our search will simply ignore the full text term and search exclusively for the pubmed id, potentially returning a result you were not interested in.

• Publication Searches do not support wildcards (ex. STE*, CDC*, are invalid)
• Pubmed ID Searches - You can search for multiple pubmed ids by entering each one separated by a space, comma, or on a new line and consisting of only numeric values (ex. 16543232). Please note that BioGRID does not index the entire pubmed database, so searches for pubmed ids that have not been looked at by our team will not show up in results. You can only search by keyword or by pubmed, NOT BOTH simultaneously. If you enter keywords and pubmed ids at the same time, BioGRID will search only for the pubmed ids and ignore all keywords.
• Publication Keyword Searches - You can search BioGRID publications by Keyword using a simple boolean syntax. You can string together multiple keywords by simply adding a space, comma, or new line between each word. For example, if you wanted to bring up all papers containing the either the word “breast” and “cancer” you would search breast cancer. If you wanted papers that contained either “breast” or “cancer” you simply need to put a ^ character in front of each word ^breast ^cancer. If you wanted papers containing “breast” but not containing “cancer” you would use a minus sign like so breast -cancer.
  • breast cancer - Returns only papers containing both terms
  • kinase -yeast - Returns papers containing kinase, but not if that papers contains yeast
  • kinase -(yeast pombe cerevisiae) - Returns papers containing kinase, but not if any of the other 3 yeast terms in brackets are present.
  • ^breast ^cancer - Returns papers containing either the breast or the word cancer
  • You cannot search for terms where all words are prefaced by a minus sign. For example -Breast -Cancer is an invalid search.
  • Keyword searches are performed on 4 fields publication title, publication abstract, publication authors, and pubmed meshterms. For example, you can search for “Stevens Jameson” to find papers where both authors Stevens and Jameson are present.
