Contribute to BioGRID ORCS

In order for BioGRID ORCS to continue to grow and expand, we rely on the community to help us through contributions that improve our dataset. There are 5 major ways that you can contribute right away.

  1. Send us your published data.
  2. Join our curation team.
  3. Link to us / Link to our result pages.
  4. Alert us to publications that we might have missed in our curation.
  5. Point out any errors/corrections to our existing data.

1. Send Us Your Data

The easiest way to ensure your data are added to our sites is to send us your published results. You can contact us at support@thebiogrid.org and one of our curators will get back to you ASAP. In most cases, all you need to do is send us a Microsoft Excel or Plain Text File containing your results, and our team can incorporate it into BioGRID ORCS. Furthermore, if you have a publication that is “in press”, but not yet released to the public, we can also work with you to get your data incorporated into BioGRID ORCS, so that they are available in our results as quickly as possible to coincide with the release of your paper.

To ease submission of CRISPR screen data, we've created a template document you can use to provide relevant metadata for each screen. Simply fill out this Metadata Template with your screen details, and send it to us. For more information on the contents of the Metadata file, please refer to the CRISPR Screen Metadata page.

2. Join Our Curation Team

Although we continue to expand the number of organisms and screens curated every month, the truth is that it's impossible for us to cover everything simultaneously. If you have an area of interest you'd like to see curated, we'd love to have you join our team.

If you're interested in curating CRISPR screens, you can start small by simply sending us relevant datasets in your area of interest/expertise, whenever you have the time to help out. If you're looking for a bigger role, you can potentially join our full curation team and contribute new data on a regular basis. For more information on how to help out and how to join our team, contact us at support@thebiogrid.org.

If you have a website, the simplest way to help us out is to link to us from your site. If you spread the word to your visitors by linking to our main website or any of our result/publication pages, you'll be doing us a huge favor and showing your support for our efforts.

If you have a large website such as a model organism database, major annotation resource, bioinformatics tool, etc, we would love to work with you to incorporate links to BioGRID results directly from relevant pages within your resource. Already databases such as TAIR, SGD, NCBI Entrez Gene, FlyBase, GeneDB, STRING, Pathway Commons, etc. have worked with us to build links, and we'd be happy to work with you as well. Simply email us at support@thebiogrid.org and we can work out all the details. To see some of the other databases already working with us, visit our External Database Downloads page for examples of files we've already made for others.

4. Alert Us to Publications that we Might have Missed in Our Curation

While BioGRID ORCS employs a large curation management system that constantly fetches new publications for curation, occasionally a paper might be missed by our system. If you're looking for a publication that doesn't seem to be in our system, let us know about it and we'll add it to our curation queue. All we need is the pubmed id of the paper and our curators can take it from there…

5. Point out any Errors/Corrections to our Existing Data

If, while using our site, you come across an interaction you believe is invalid, please let us know immediately. By alerting us to potential problem areas, you help us make sure our dataset is as comprehensive and accurate as possible. We greatly appreciate any correction we get, so let us know if you come across any inaccuracies and we'll fix them immediately.
